Preventative Health Care

We at Morris Animal Hospital believe that the best way to enhance your pet’s quality of life and to avoid health problems is to maintain a regular schedule of comprehensive health examinations.  During these visits, we discuss nutritional needs, vaccinations, parasite prevention, laboratory tests and additional medical services that can help us optimize your friend’s health and quality of life.

Laser Surgery

Lasers have been successfully used in human medicine for over 30 years. Now your pet can benefit from this cutting edge technology.  Laser surgery is an exciting new option for safer, more comfortable care. In many procedures, the laser can replace the scalpel and provide a better alternative to traditional surgery.  Laser surgery offers the benefit of less bleeding during surgical procedures, and less pain and swelling post-operatively.  As a result, pets recover more comfortably, and return to normal activity more quickly.

PennHip Evaluations for Hip Dysplasia

PennHip offers a more accurate means of evaluating dogs (and cats) for the presence of hip dysplasia than the more well known, OFA technique.  Dr. Doug is one of only three veterinarians in the northern Indiana area who are certified to perform this examination on your pet.

Nutrition Counseling

Almost half of the pets in this country are overweight or obese.  These pets have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, bone and joint injury, diabetes, and a host of other medical problems that can dramatically decrease your pet's overall life span and limit his or her quality of life.  We offer comprehensive nutrition evaluation and counseling to help you optimize your pet's weight, and to help your pet live a happier and healthier life.

Pain Management

At Morris Animal Hospital, alleviating pain and suffering is central to our practice philosophy. Be assured that your pet will be treated with appropriate pain medications during any medical or surgical stay, and that pain medication for use at home is always available.

After Hours and Emergency Care

We utilize the services of the Animal Emergency Clinic, located about five minutes from Morris Animal Hospital at 2324 Grape Road, in Mishawaka. They provide 24 hour care on weekends and holidays, and are open all night during the week.  Their phone number is (574) 259-8387.

Please note that we do have an answering machine for your convenience, and will return messages the following morning (or on Mondays for messages left over the weekend).  However, if you call after hours and your pet has an emergency, please go directly to the Animal Emergency Clinic rather than wait for a phone call back from us!
